River Taff close to bursting its banks

We have a fresh HD video from the Taff Trail in Cardiff today.

Taken from Blackweir bridge in Pontcanna, and cycling down to Clarence Bridge in Grangetown/Cardiff Bay after 4 days of torrential rain.

Two herons can be seen if you look carefully enough.

British Embassy in Tehran closed

The British Embassy in Tehran has been taken over by Iranian protesters. The last of the staff have left and it has been closed.

A looter makes off with a crest from British Embassy in Tehran

In retaliation, Foreign Secretary William Hague has expelled all Iranian diplomats in UK and told the Iranian High Commissioner to close the Embassy 48 hours.

For the past two years, the Iranians have been moving all money out of the UK and into gold, doubling it in the process.

Debris in the River Taff

image

I saw all this debris floating down the River Taff in Cardiff today 6th September 2011.

The first clip was filmed outside Nos Da on Taff Embankment overlooking the Millennium Stadium. The second was taken from Penarth Road Bridge.

Watch out if you are boating in the bay today, there are gas canisters whole trees and tree trunks in there. I also saw counted seven footballs and two rugby balls.

Visiting Gloucester for the first time I saw some beautiful Georgian houses which have seen better days.

Gloucester Park has some lovely villas which remind me of pictures of Notting Hill in the sixties.

Apple Mac virus pandemic takes hold on OS10 users

The malware MacDefender is ripping its way through Mac OS10 systems.
The clean is pretty simple, but Applecare customers are not being told how to remove it as malware and is not covered.
One report says that half of all calls to Applecare are from infected users.

Many users are paying the $79 requested by the software, only to be told incorrectly that their card has declined. They are then prompted to try another card, and so on.

Falling off my bike – 1 year on

On 17th of May 2010 I was cycling on the path between Blackweir bridge and the avenue in Pontcanna Fields when my front wheel went into a pothole filled with stone dust making it invisible. It was like hitting sand at speed and I went over the handlebars.

17th May 2010

I went to casualty and had a four hour wait dripping blood all over the floor. When I did see the nurse, he was a fellow cyclist and very sympathetic. He had to inject it with novacaine and used a scrubbing brush to get the grit out.

18th May 2010

I had to go back the next day for him to try to get the rest out.

26th May 2010

I had to visit the local doctors surgery every day for a month to have it dressed. On weekends I had to go the wound clinic in St David’s Hospital. They dressed it with silver and iodene and had me on antibiotics for the infection for four months.

9th June 2010

I was taking painkillers for months after the accident, Co-Codamol 30/500 and Ibubrofen 400. I had to visit the nurse for dressings regularly for 4 months.

Sorry about the bad pictures from my phone.

And finally, one year afterwards:

17th May 2011

Now I am seeing a consultant dermatologist as I have no skin on the wound, just scar tissue.

The bike was absolutely fine apart from a small scratch.

I am now putting a silicone scar stuff called Dermatix on, and can see improvements after a month. Cost is £25 for 15g on Amazon – thank god for free prescriptions in Wales. The amount of prescriptions I have had for this injury would have cost me about £1000 in England.

The Queen’s Fishmonger to open Pontcanna branch

The old Costa Rica Coffee Company shop at 85 Pontcanna Street, Cardiff is to be a Fishmongers which sells alcohol. Channel Fisheries Ltd of Brixham, which holds a Royal Warrant to supply H.M. The Queen with fish, have submitted an application for on and off alcohol sales.

A Companies House search reveals company may be linked to quality eating establishments The New Conway and Woods Brasserie owners Knife & Fork Food Ltd.

Channel Fisheries Ltd is a Brixham based retail and wholesale fish seller established in 1981. It’s registered office is in Cardiff Bay.

Another good sign that Pontcanna is attracting new businesses, after reports of many empty shops in the Western Mail and Guardian portals.
